A testimony by the president
of the Bow Hunters French Federation

Dear Sir,

I take this opportunity to express my great satisfaction with your BlueStar product in tracking a roe deer after one of our summer hunts.

Last year, at the beginning of July, my friend Bertrand CHABOT, President of CABS (Archery Hunt Club Beauce Sologne) and I became aware of the presence of a young small 4 points on the grounds of the ACCA in Lancôme, some fifteen kilometres north-west of Blois (France).

We decided to set up two tree stands, a few hundred metres distant from one another : a broad expanse of field, just recently harvested, at the edge of a region of broad-leaved woods, served our young deer as its steady ‘larder’.

It was a cool evening, with the sun just starting to set, signalling the orange-sliced onset of gloomed dusk, as so well expressed by my Quebec friend Paulin.

I had been at my post for about one hour, when Bertrand appeared at the edge of the woods, with at least three quarters of an hour still remaining before the end of our stake-out. He appeared to be excited and I immediately understood that something must have happened. Without a word I came down the tree steps mounted to my stand and both of us went back to the site where Bertrand made his hit.

The small 4 points had come sauntering up alongside the edge of the woods and Bertrand had fixed him with a steady unerring arrow in the chest. Bright, red blood, with some air bubbles inside, spotted the yellow-feathered wooden shaft of his arrow. This quickly confirmed the hunter's assumptions of the hit.

Along the first metres of the animal’s flight path, we noticed drops of blood on the clover covering the field but after about fifteen metres, our quarry had regained the thick cover of the woods …And from there on, nothing more to be seen!

The darkness inside the woods, deepened by the descending dusk, made it impossible for us to follow the deer’s tracks. This hardly held us back. We got ourselves a flashlight… but the blood tracks were no longer visible.

We considered getting a bloodhound to help us with our search. Christian and his Labrador would fit the bill perfectly … but that meant waiting until the following morning. The thought of the arrow’s perfect hit drove us to keep at our search without delaying…

The solution was to take recourse to the BlueStar , which had patiently been marking time in the trunk of my car for already a number of months, waiting for just the right opportunity to prove its worth. A few minutes later, and after having mixed the two products, we set out on our first experiment with this uncommon tracking device to assist us.

By now night had fallen on us. As soon as we got inside the woods, I sprayed the product along the animal’s escape trail … A fine fluorescent mist drifted to the ground, revealing a multitude of tiny bluish points. We quickly received confirmation with our flashlight. Traces of drops of blood! No question that we were on the trail of our deer. We thus pressed on with our tracking, spraying the dust along the trail, trying now to the right, now to the left as we progressed. The evidence was very clear. The myriad of minute points revealed by the BlueStar product left us in no doubt that we were on the trail of the deer.

I kept marking the trail with small shreds of paper but Bertrand, confident of his shot, pressed relentlessly onwards. Careful to avoid stepping in the trail of blood, we carried on amongst the bushes of small brambleberries and bracken.

Finally, at about 80 meters from the hit site, Bertrand found his deer, lying on its side, a small hole of 40 mm in the chest area dripping a few drops of late blood. Death must have come almost instantaneously, within 5 to 6 seconds, just enough time for the animal to finish its flight at the foot of an ancient holly.

Many thanks thus to your marvellous BlueStar tracker, which demonstrated its remarkable effectiveness for the hunter during this exciting tracking episode.

With kind regards,

Philippe LAVALLART
