Sound direction locating

Three technologies allow to locate the direction of sounds : stereophony and the use of directional microphones or of a parabolic dish.

Stereophony

Stereo Amplification creates sound like your own natural hearing. Because you perceive sounds with a slight time difference between both ears, you are able to retain your sense of sound direction. Stereophony is available on Mega Ears, Detect Ear, and CommandEar.

Directional microphone

In addition to stereo amplification, the Mega Ears is equipped with two directional microphones. You hear mostly sounds in front of you (or behind if you wear the Mega Ears backwards). Mega Ears is the most directional sound amplifier for hunting. The other models have omni-directional microphones that amplify sounds all around you (360°).

Directional parabolic dish

The directional parabolic dish allows you to scan your environment in search of specific sounds, eliminating this way undesired sounds. This is the technology used by the Detect Ear and the Bionic Ear to make them directional. With their powerful parabolic dish they are particularly efficient for naturalists and search and rescue teams.

Hearing protection

Your ears are important, they are a link to nature. Damages suffured by the ears are cumulative : they add up and each gun shot worsens your hearing loss.  You need to protect your ears yet be able to hear the game as it comes closer. All our headsets amplify sounds within a reasonable limit and they block out violent noises.  Some of these headsets also muff out the surrounding sounds and may be considered protective ear muffs.

Note : when shooting with large-bore handguns, or at indoor ranges, it is recommended to wear supplementary earplugs .

Choosing between insulating and "open" ear cups

If you need permanent protection against sounds, we recommend one of these models : Mega Ears, Action Ear Sport or the Sound-Right Es-85. Their ear cups insulate you from sounds not coming through the amplification system. 

Choosing the amplification system

The Mega Ears protects cleverly : it sets the sound limit at a safe 92 dB, while continuously amplifying the weaker sounds. It never misses a sound (no cut-off), no compression of weak sounds. A great advantage for the shooting range.

The Action Ear Sport and the CommandEar offer you two amplification settings. The LMT setting sets the sound limit at a safe 70 dB. Sounds are compressed but there is no cut-off. The MAX setting limits sounds by automatic safety cut-off at 95 dB.

On our other models, an automatic safety circuit cuts off amplification when sounds reach 95 decibels. 

Comfort and fit

Mega Ears offers the comfort of leather ear cups and band.

The Action Ear Sport and the CommandEar are equipped with an adjustable collar-level tension headband plus an adjustable over-the-head Velcro strap for perfect fit. They allow you to wear a hat. The unit will stay in place, even if you run. The ear cups are anatomically designed to fit the contour of your head, allowing a tight seal without undue pressure.

But if you are looking for a lightweight and compact unit, the CommandEar is the solution.
